Tazemmurt Story
My name is Zeinab and I am the proud owner and founder of Tazemmurt. I founded Tazemmurt in 2018 following events that changed my life and altered my career. In 2011, I was living in Libya and working as a businesswoman in a company that I founded providing training to professionals in Libya working in the oil sector. This all changed when the uprising took over Libya and heralded the beginning of a civil war that is still ongoing to this day. To find safety and opportunities, I fled with my daughter to Malta and moved from Malta to Turkey and finally landed in Egypt. At 57 years old, I had to create a new life and purpose for myself in an entirely new place.
How did Tazemmurt start?
As a child, I have vivid memories of growing up with my mother who deeply cared about plants. She grew her herbs, distilled rosewater by herself, and instilled a love in me for natural homemade products and respect for the craftsmanship that goes into making them. When I found myself in Turkey after leaving Libya, I started to think about how I can reconnect to a place that I now lost and started devoting all my time to researching of how to make soap and how to make the highest quality natural soap. I used my background in chemical engineering to understand every chemical reaction and ingredient used in the soap making process and began to experiment in my home. It became a daily ritual to experiment on new soap batches and each new one would turn out better than the last.
Everything came together when I found myself in the Siwa Oasis of Egypt surrounded by a plethora of local ingredients: dates, camel tallow, olive oil, Rock salt from the petrified lakes, local sulphur-rich dust and many more. This enabled me to continue pursuing soap making with the highest quality natural ingredients and I launched Tazemmurt. I started selling soap and inviting people to soap making workshops to share of what I learned. For the first time since leaving Libya, I was able to find a sense of community by sharing my passion and story with other people who were looking to learn more about the art of soap making.
Tazemmurt is a story and not just a brand.
After some time in Siwa, I built a house there that came with a huge garden where I have olive trees and aromatic herbs that I grow to use in my products. I also have my own lab and workshop space in my home. Not long after, my house became a tourist attraction with groups from all over the world visiting to not just purchase products, but also to experience the entire process of soap making that starts with a tour in my garden to a detailed look at the equipment in the lab and how it is used. Each product from Tazemmurt has a story from the ingredients to how it’s packaged and sold. It has been my greatest pleasure sharing this story with others and showing that even at 57 years old, it’s never too late to have a new start and rebuild what you lost.
